Our Story

First Date

August 2019

We met at a restaurant called Drifters in Burlington, Vermont in late August 2019. We enjoyed each other so much that we ended up at a second location, a local coffee house/performance venue called Radio Bean.

Caro was going into her second year of medical school at the University of Vermont, and Luke had just started a new job at Bell Wealth Management that same week.

Burlington

2020 to 2022

We dated for several months, and when COVID hit we quarantined together in Caro’s tiny apartment on College Street. We did workouts using furniture as weights in the apartment parking lot, ventured out for to-go cocktails from the local Church Street restaurants and went down to the Burlington waterfront to kick around a soccer ball to keep ourselves occupied.

As COVID was settling down, we moved into an apartment on Chase Street together. We buzzed around town on a moped and went to a lot of Vermont breweries, met up with Sylvia Lane and our other medical school friends at the Burlington waterfront and became regulars at a lifting gym together.

Our favorite activity was meeting our friends Shane Baldwin and Carley Mulligan for “Whiskey Wiener Wednesday” at a restaurant on the Winooski River, equal walking distance from both our apartments.

Charlie

2021

Charlie, our now 100-pound Goldendoodle, came into our lives and immediately wreaked havoc. The first night we brought him home, our apartment neighbors were displeased by his barking (shocking). We spent the snowy February night sleeping in Luke’s Jeep with Charlie snuggled up in the backseat.

The next morning, we showed up on Luke’s brother Karlon’s doorstep and he took us in. Karlon was renovating a house, so Charlie grew up in a construction zone. We spent evenings huddled around the fire (no heat…again this was February in Vermont). Our favorite part of this experience was crawling through a literal hole in the wall to get to the single functioning bathroom in the house.

After several months living in a construction zone, we found an apartment on North Street. Unfortunately, this used to be the location of the DMV, so we had several people enter our apartment and ask us to renew their registration.

Minneapolis

2022

Caro’s medical school was coming to an end, and she matched at her first choice for emergency medicine residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN. Thankfully, Luke’s company was headquartered in Minneapolis so the move worked for both of our careers. We loaded up both of our Jeeps and drove 24 hours across the country to our new home.

At our rental house in Minneapolis, Luke tried to grow grass four or five times in the backyard before deciding that you can’t grow grass in shade, and that he should stop dumping money into a rental. Charlie started a collection of softballs that got hit over the fence from the nearby park and got pets from kids through the fence.

We hosted holidays and parties with way too many friends to fit into the tiny house, and occasionally woke up to Quin Stevens napping on the communal couch (either post-call or post-concert). We lovingly called this our “group home.”

Engagement

November 2024

In November 2024, we took a road trip from Minneapolis to Salt Lake City. The first night, we stopped to camp in the Badlands, where Luke proposed to Caro in sweatpants and a parka. Turns out the Badlands in November gets down to 40 degrees at night!

We celebrated in Colorado and Utah and on the long drive back to Minneapolis, decided to buy our first home.

Minnetonka

2025

Within 5 days of meeting our realtor, we got an offer accepted on our first home in Minnetonka, Minnesota. On New Year’s Day, Evan Smith helped us move all of our earthly belongings, including a 2,000 lb treadmill, out of our tiny rental and into our new home. Bribed by pizza and beer, he then moved Emily and Danny Ferrari into our old rental later that same week.

Now

2026

Now, Caro has finished her residency and Luke is still at the same company (now called Berger Financial Group).

Things are calming down in life, and we decided that now is the perfect time to get married.

Currently, we love gathering our friends around an indoor or outdoor fire, cooking and hosting dinners, going to concerts, playing tennis, biking, running and paddleboarding at the parks near our house, working on home renovations and gardening, and playing endless games of fetch with Charlie.

Wedding Weekend

September 2027

Our wedding venue is the summer camp where Luke, his twin brother Karlon and their younger brother Brennan spent every summer growing up, first as campers in 2006 and then as counselors. Their father, Norbert Auger, has been the camp director for over 20 years and is allegedly retiring soon (but we’ll believe it when we see it).

We would be honored if you would join us in the Green Mountains of Vermont to celebrate. We’re so excited to gather everyone from our life at a place that is so important to us. We hope you can join us and enjoy a weekend of activities with good food and drinks, good music and good company, all of our favorite things.
